Sound of the Edges

April 2021

Lamp making workshop for Sounds at the Edges, a project working with the recovery community and visual arts charity Portraits of Recovery.

Portraits of Recovery are a visual arts charity which believes that the arts & culture can be transformational in and of themselves. Our vision and intent are to improve the lives of people and communities in recovery from substance use by improved access to cultural opportunity.

The organisation’s work not only supports individual recovery, but the further development of both the Recovery Movement and Recovery Communities by making recovery visible through contemporary visual arts practice that facilitates contribution to an emergent cultural identity.

The workshop explored small-scale manufacturing techniques to create fully functioning table lamps that the participants could take away with them and use in their homes. I was keen that the workshop present a range of skills and principles that could be applied in day to day life – from DIY to home repairs.
