Sugru Lamp Prototypes

Birch plywood, silicone, cornstarch

I made the lamp base out of 9mm birch ply and used a beeswax finish which doubled as a mould release. I then mixed up some moulding silicone and spread it around the lamp base with a spatula like icing a cake. I clamped a length of steel around the silicone as it was going off to ensure an even ‘tubular’ shape. Once It had set I just had to pull the silicone up along the plywood and I had a lamp base with a lampshade.
